Portfolio Show Guidelines & Expectations

THIS EVENT IS STRICTLY FOR 2ND YEAR GRADUATES 

 

DATE: Friday, May 8th, 2015

TIME: Student Check-in begins at 10:00 AM. The Portfolio Show is from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

LOCATION: [Studio 33] -  33 N. LaSalle, 2nd Floor (same building as campus)

 

***We highly encourage you to do your research on each company under the "Portfolio Show Attendees" drop down. In addition, you should research any specific jobs that are open within each company, so you can mention them during your conversations with their representatives.***​​

 

CHECK-IN

 

Student Check-in will be between 10:00 AM & 11:45 AM. The Portfolio Show will begin promptly at 12:00 PM.

 

• You will not be allowed to enter Studio 33, prior to 10:00 AM.

 

• At the same time, you will not be allowed in after 11:45am. You must be entirely set up by 12:00pm,  arrive early to make sure you have enough time to comfortably set up and prepare.

 

• Remember: this is an open house event. Employers will be arriving at various times throughout the 12:00pm - 3:00pm window. The show will conclude at 3:00pm.

 

DRESS CODE​

 

You MUST dress in business casual attire. Wear comfortable (but professional) shoes, as you will be standing for most of the show.

 

Also, be mindful of your grooming and overall appearance. This is your time to shine, so make a great first impression! You will be shaking hands with high-level executives, so now is the time to put on your most professional demeanor.

 

​​WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED

 

TABLES: Each graduate will be provided with one individual 4’x30” table (standard height).

 

LINENS: Each graduate will be provided with one black table covering.

 

WHAT TO BRING

 

REQUIRED ITEMS

RESUMES: Bring at least 100 hard copies of your Career Services APPROVED résumé.

 

BUSINESS CARDS: Bring business cards. Upon arrival, each employer will be given a tote  to collect business cards, résumés, and other give-away items you may have.  

 

LAPTOP and/or TABLET: Bring your laptop and/or tablet FULLY CHARGED.

 

PEN & PAPER: Please take notes on who you spoke with and what you spoke about , as you will want to send follow-up thank you notes after the show. 

 

HEADPHONES: This is a mandatory item for all RECORDING ARTS students. For other majors, you are welcome to bring headphones, if you had not previously requested a set from Career Services. 

 

OPTIONAL ITEMS

COLLATERAL/SWAG: You are welcome and encouraged to bring small, personalized, professional items with your name/logo as give-aways for employers. These can be printwork, photos of work, USB drives, pens, etc. You could also bring candy dishes/treats. Remember, you are your own brand. This is the time to show it off and sell yourself!

 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

 

Make sure your reels, websites, soundclouds, and/or any other materials you want to show employers, are up and ready to play locally on your computer before the Portfolio Show. Internet access will be made available, but please have a back-up plan in case of technical difficulties. It is always best to save your work locally on your hard drive. 

 

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO BRING A CHARGER FOR ALL ELECTRICAL DEVICES. There will be a designated hotspot used as a charging station. You will NOT be provided with your own personal outlet at your table. 

 

Remember everything we have taught you: a confident handshake, good eye contact, a friendly introduction and positive conversation.
